First Fridays: The Big Burn
12:00 PM
Butte-Silver Bow Public Library
Description:
n the tradition of the Westside Shakespeare Club (a Chautauqua here in Butte), First Fridays is dedicated to exploring our world, our history, and literary works. Each month, our brown bag series will be the first Friday at noon on the third floor of the Butte Public Library.
Please join us each month for a lecture, documentary, or discussion that will last about an hour.
This Friday we will be screening the documentary: American Experience: The Big Burn. Inspired by Timothy Egans bestseller, this is the dramatic story of an catastrophic 1910 wildfire that defined the fledgling U.S. Forest Service and the nations fire policy for the rest of the 20th century and beyond. In the current American landscape, The Big Burn provides a cautionary tale of heroism and sacrifice, arrogance and greed, hubris and, ultimately, humility, in the face of natures frightening power.
