MPA Annual Meeting: Butte's Ethnic Atlas Project Description:
The Montana Preservation Alliance will hold its Annual Meeting and give a special presentation on the Butte Ethnic Atlas project on Thursday, October 27, at 7:00.
This year, the National Park Service awarded a grant to Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives and the Montana Preservation Alliance (MPA) for a project to study the rich ethnic heritage of Butte, and to inventory and map places in Butte and the surrounding area that were formerly the center of active ethnic communities. During the 2016 centennial of the National Park Service, MPA and Butte-Silver Bow have expanded knowledge of the rich heritage that ethnic people brought to the Mining City.
After a brief year-in-review and election of officers, MPA Executive Director Chere Jiusto will give a presentation about MPAs work with the Butte Archives to document the history of ethnic communities in and around Butte in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The event is free and open to all interested people. Donations Accepted. In addition to the public lecture, there will be ethnic pasties, artifacts on display and an annual meeting update on the work of Montana Preservation Alliance throughout the state this past year.
