The Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives will hold a fundraiser, A Night in Black and White, to raise funds to preserve the C. Owen Smithers Photograph Collection. The event will take place at the Clark Chateau, 321 W. Broadway on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. There will be a live auction featuring never-before-seen Smithers images as well as a silent auction and adopt a photo program.
The Smithers Photograph Collection contains more than 25,000 images that document Butte's rise as a cosmopolitan city, including images of street scenes, businesses, mining, and more. For the past 50 years, the images have been unavailable to the public, and with the community's support, the Archives will make the collection available once again.
Tickets are available at the Archives or online https://squareup.com/market/buttearchives/item/a-night-in-black-and-white. They will also be sold at the door the evening of the event.
