The Musical Storytelling of Ken Waldman Description:
This is a concert and a workshop rolled into one!
This event will start with a writing workshop at 4pm.
FOUR WRITING PROMPTS: THE BEGINNING OF FOUR NEW STORIES OR POEMS
The more you write, the luckier you get–and each time you start a piece, there’s an opportunity to get luckier than ever. The trick is getting started. Here, you’ll not only begin four new pieces, but will learn strategies to begin many more. The 2-hour session is open to writers of all levels and experience.
At 5pm Ken will perform his original old time fiddle tunes from his large body of work

Ken will share work from some of his sixteen poetry collections, his new novel, and original and traditional Appalachian-style fiddle tunes from his nine albums. Ken’s shows are literary readings, concerts, and storytelling experiences rolled into one. He is a former college professor with an MFA in Creative Writing who has been a visiting writer at hundreds of colleges, universities, and schools in 35 states. Since 1995 Ken has been a full-time touring artist, appearing in a wide range of venues for a wide range of audiences.

Ken Waldman’s most recently published book is a novel, Now Entering Alaska Time. From the book jacket:
“Ken Waldman’s Now Entering Alaska Time offers a glimpse of an Alaska you won’t find anywhere else. Those who have lived here will recognize these characters and want to experience this world for themselves. Waldman’s debut novel lingers in your mind like a good folk song, and leaves you humming. A unique blend of heartbreak and tragedy, comedy and drama, Waldman delivers an unforgettable and fun read. The 49th State changes people, and after reading Now Entering Alaska Time, you’ll understand why time here is unlike any other place on the planet.”
–Don Rearden, author of The Raven’s Gift and Without a Paddle

Press-
“He brings his instruments, a few fellow musicians, and his poems about surviving a plane crash (locals once called him “a walking dead man”), watching grizzlies feed in a garbage dump, and other adventures in the forty-ninth state.”
The New Yorker
“. . . might tempt you to plan a road trip with a journal under one arm and a fiddle under the other.”
Boston Globe
