Brown Bag Lunch: True Crime in Butte Description:
Join the Butte Archives on Wednesday, April 26, to hear Clark Grant explore true crime stories as revealed in the city’s rival newspapers. Grant will explain how newspapers are used to research people, places and events in Butte’s history. His talk will cover crimes in Butte (and Walkerville) from roughly 1890 to the 1970s, looking at unsolved murders (Mrs. Ellen Brooks), solved murders (the Drozda bombing) and other crimes like 'obscene letters sent through the mail' and using court records from the Archives’ collection to show primary source material for the cases.

Clark Grant is a graduate of the University of Montana (B.A. French, 2014). After 6 years at Montana Public Radio and KBGA, the college radio station licensed to the University of Montana, Clark moved to Butte for the purpose of building and managing KBMF. At KBGA, Clark was Program Director in 2011 and General Manager in 2012. Clark is an advocate for media access and worked closely with the Butte America Foundation board of directors on social justice issues in Butte, including community radio, historic preservation, and civic engagement. He co-authored the NEH grant for Verdigris and administered the project in conjunction with the Butte America Foundation board of directors. He is also host and producer of Verdigris: Life Underground.

The Brown Bag Lunch will begin at noon and run about an hour at the Archives, 17 W. Quartz Street. Coffee and water will be served and guests may bring a sack lunch. For more information, please call the Archives at 406-782-3280.
