Brown Bag Lunch: Butte history told in Timelapse Description:
Doug Ammons is working on his time machine to show Butte as it was in its wild heyday, a place as fascinating as any city in our nation’s history. Join the Butte Archives at noon on Wednesday, October 12, as Doug continues to pursue recreating the history of Butte using time lapse videos. In this presentation he will give people a look at some of his ongoing projects. In each one he unveils lively past scenes in short movie journeys high and low through streets, mineyards, rail lines, and old vibrant neighborhoods that are now quiet. Watch the past miraculously appear through Uptown jaunts along Park Street and Broadway. Amble along Copper Street through Corktown with the mines alive, the trollies headed up Anaconda Road, see a little dynamite urging miners to stand back from union hall, and watch funeral processions from the Speculator disaster filling the streets.

Swoop up with a drone to the top of the Metals Bank to see the sweep of the richest hill on earth, with the Parrot, Neversweat and Anaconda looking over the city. Then swoop down with the drone from the 8th floor of the Metals to the rooftop of the Peoples Vaudeville Theater and there, meet face to face the most beautiful young lady you’ve ever seen, enjoying herself in a curiously intimate hiding place above the busyness of Park Street in 1923, with the Finlen being built behind her.

The Brown Bag Lunch will begin at noon and run about an hour at the Archives, 17 W. Quartz Street. Coffee and water will be served and guests may bring a sack lunch. For more information, please call the Archives at 406-782-3280.
