Brown Bag Lunch with Mike Dennison: Inside MT Politics
12:00 PM
Butte Archives
Description:
The Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives will continue its Brown Bag Lunch series on Thursday, November 14, with a presentation by journalist Mike Dennison. Dennison will speak about this new book “Inside Montana Politics: A Reporter’s View from the Trenches,” which is a lively historical and personal look at major political figures and events he has covered during his 30-plus-year career as a reporter in Montana. The book leads off with a chapter in Montana history of particular interest to Butte: the fall of Montana Power Co., in the wake of the deregulation debacle of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Dennison also includes chapters on Judy Martz — our only woman governor — as well as other governors, U.S. senators, and the 1991 riot at the State Prison in Deer Lodge.

Mike Dennison is the chief political reporter for the Montana Television Network. He’s been a reporter since 1981, almost entirely in Montana, and a full-time political reporter here since 1992, working for the Montana Standard, Billings Gazette, Great Falls Tribune, Helena Independent Record, Missoulian and The Associated Press. He’s a 1981 graduate of the University of Montana’s journalism school, and lives in Helena.

The presentation will begin at noon and run about an hour at the Archives, 17 W. Quartz. Guests are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Coffee and water will be provided.

Please note that this lecture is on a Thursday. Brown Bag Lunches are held the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month. Upcoming lectures will focus on topics of local interest. For more information, contact the Archives at 782-3280.
