Brown Bag Lunch: Feeding Butte in Hard Times Description:
The Butte-Silver Bow Archives is hosting two presentations on a selection of photographs from the C. Owen Smithers Photograph Collection.
“Feeding Butte in Hard Times” will run at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, and again at the noon Brown Bag Lunch on Wednesday, November 28, in the large auditorium at 17 W. Quartz St. This is the fourth of several themed presentations from the C.O. Smithers Collection.
This presentation in photographs relates how Butte took care of feeding its needy during economic hard times and long strikes. A special focus will be on the Hansen Packing Plant south of Butte, which, during the Great Depression, hired hundreds of WPA workers to process meat to feed the country. The photos will be presented by staff archivist Irene Scheidecker, based on the work of volunteers Barb and Reno Parker.
Guests are invited to bring a brown bag lunch to the noon presentation. Coffee and water will be served. Attendance is limited to 100 and doors will open thirty minutes before the lecture. For further details, contact the Archives at 406-782-3280.
