Brown Bag Lunch with John Conlan: The R.E.L.A. Description:
The Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives will continue its Brown Bag Lunch series on Wednesday, August 10, when John Conlan will talk about the research he completed on the Robert Emmet Literary Association, a Butte fraternal organization. The research was the result of the Carrie Johnson Fellowship he received in 2021. Conlan will examine an important Butte fraternal organization whose history is not well known. His research reveals a social history of the organization from 1885 to 1925 and the active and important role it played in the early history of Butte and its contribution to Irish independence during a very important time period in Irish history.

John is a retired public school teacher. Prior to teaching he worked for the National Park Service as an Interpretive Park Ranger. He has an interest in Irish and Irish American history, has traveled extensively in Ireland, has family in County Clare, and holds dual citizenship with Ireland. Currently he hosts a music program on Butte Community Radio Station KBMF called “The Rocky Road to Dublin” and a history program called “The Harp Without the Crown.”

The presentation will begin at noon and run about an hour at the Archives, 17 W. Quartz Street. Guests may bring a sack lunch and the Archives will provide coffee and water.
